About Me

Most recently, I spent four years working in a small non-profit legal firm as paralegal/legal assistant and grant manager/coordinator. For two years, immediately following my retirement from teaching, I supervised the development of over 5,000 new operating and maintenance procedures for a major international chemical company opening five polyethylene crackers in Louisiana. I supervised the work of twelve procedure writers and provided instruction in OSHA and DOT-compliant procedure writing to over 200 plant operators and maintenance supervisors.

Prior to these jobs, for 22 years, I was a tenured full professor, composition program director, and writing center director at a small regional university in Lake Charles, Louisiana. I have co-authored three books on undergraduate composition and grammar. As a part of my service obligation to the university, I chaired and edited two accreditation self-studies that resulted in re-accreditation over two decades.

My dissertation research — a quantitative and qualitative study — focused on determining writing strategies that were consistent with gender and race among writers, grades 9-undergraduate freshman composition.
